News from Squire's Isle

We’re ten days and counting until the glory of NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month, and I thought I would wish good luck, and extend an invite, to anyone participating this year. The goal is simple: write 50,000 words in one month. The reality is a little harder (well… for people who aren’t me, apparently <g>). It’s crazy, insane, and a whole lot of fun. People from all over the world come in and finally write that Great American Novel. Or at least… an American Novel. Or a [insert country]an novel. <g>

It’s the little push of motivation a lot of people need to finally sit down and start that novel. It can be just for fun, or it can lead you into that wonderful class of people who actually get paid for writing (I’m one of them, believe it or not. I still can’t. <g>)

The tips… uh. Get in there and write. Don’t worry about how good it is, that’s editing and it can wait until December. Just write. You may be surprised with what you come up with. I also recommend not having an overly strict outline before you start writing. Inspiration is a wonderful thing and, when you have tens of thousands of other crazy writers sharing the dream with you, you’ll find it popping up in unusual places.

Go, join the madness. Get that novel written. You’ll thank me later.
